Q. Erratic auto trip sync on Huawei brand phones..
A. Huawei phones use aggressive battery management and randomly shut down services required for background syncing. For users of Huawei brand phones or tablets, we suggest using the manual sync functionality.
Q. Bluetooth is enabled in my Android phone but the JO App will not connect to the JO.
A. If Bluetooth is enabled in the phone and the JO App cannot communicate with the JO you must enable ‘Location’ in the phone and leave it enabled. Enabling Location will not effect your phones battery drain and the GPS will only be turned on if you open a App that uses it such as Navigation or Location Apps. When the GPS is turned on by a App you will see a location icon on the System/Status Area (top right side of the screen). JO does not use the phones GPS.
Q. What if I swipe the JO App to force it closed?
A. On most Android phones it will make no difference and the JO App will still run in the background and connect to JO via bluetooth as normal. On iOS the JO App will be completely closed and will not be able to connect to JO but JO will continue to record trips as normal and the next time the JO App is open in your vehicle with the ignition 'on' it will sync the trip data via Bluetooth.
Q. What is the minimum phone specification that will correctly run the JO system?
A. The JO App will run on phones using Google Android 5 or iOS 9 or later with Bluetooth 4.1 or higher. For best results we suggest Android 8 or higher. The phone should have sufficient ram memory and free storage memory to store the trips.
Q. Why does it sometimes take longer than normal to show a solid green led (GPS Lock)?
A. GPS lock time is variable and can be influenced by weather, location, the presence trees or multi-story buildings and the position of the JO unit in the vehicle. If you are continually experiencing lock on times of much greater than 40 seconds then the problem could be that the JO GPS antenna is not receiving a strong enough GPS signal. To rectify this we suggest you unplug the JO and rotate it 180° and plug it back in. You can also experiment by rotating the JO by 90°. The JO uses 'Assist Now' data from uBlox updated every three days from our server. The 'Assist Now' data is valid for one week and requires regular updates. If you have not driven your vehicle for more than one week, then the first trip may have a long GPS lock.
Q. Will JO appear in the list of Bluetooth paired devices on my phone?
A. No. JO pairing and unpairing is done in the JO app as JO uses Bluetooth low energy and its different to normal Bluetooth.
Q. How does JO deal with vehicles that do not switch the cigarette lighter socket 'off' when the ignition is switched ‘off’?
A. Some vehicle models keep the socket permanently powered and some BMW/Mini models switch the socket ‘off’ after a time period. JO is programmed to do a ‘end trip’ if it detects no GPS and Accelerometer movement over a 5 minute period. So for these types of vehicles any stop less than 5 minutes will not be registered as an ‘end trip’. For cases where you require to have the trip ended, you have the option to split the trip in the JO App.
Q. How do I turn the JO ‘off’?
A. JO will power ‘off’ automatically when the ignition is switched ‘off’. In the case of vehicles that do not automatically switch the ignition ‘off’, JO will automatically power down into standby mode when no GPS or physical movement is detected over a 5 minute period.
Q. Can I use JO in a 24V vehicle?
A. Yes, JO is designed to work from 12 - 24V DC.
Q. Does JO have a replaceable fuse?
A. No, JO has a solid state 4A fuse.
Q. Can JO drain my vehicle battery?
A. No, when the ignition is switched ‘off’ the JO will draw zero current and in standby it will only draw 3.9mA.
Q. How many trips can the JO unit store without regular syncing?
A. It will depend on the trip type and length of the trips but on average about 2 months.
Q. Can I pair multiple JO units with the same App?
A. Yes. You can pair as many JO units as required to a single App.
Q. Can I pair multiple Apps to a single JO unit?
A. No. By design you can only pair one App to a JO unit.
Q. Does JO work on Wi-Fi?
A. Yes. JO will work on both Mobile Data and Wi-Fi.
Q. Does the App use my phone's GPS?
A. The app does not use your phone's GPS receiver and all GPS readings are recorded by the JO unit. On Android you may have to enable ‘Location Services’ for Bluetooth Low Energy functionality depending on the brand of phone and the Android version. If ‘Location Services’ is enabled the GPS receiver will remain 'off' until a App actively uses it and this will have no effect on battery drain. When the GPS receiver is being used you will see a location icon on the status bar.
Q. What will happen if I make trips and I have left my mobile phone at home?
A. No problem. JO will continue to work as normal and all stored trip data will be synced the next time you have your mobile phone in the vehicle with Bluetooth connected (iOS app must be opened).
Q. Must Mobile Data on the phone be enabled for JO to work?
A. No. JO will still work if you have disabled Mobile Data and you can sync the data once you are in a Wi-Fi zone. Note with Mobile Data disabled you will not be able to ‘Add Geofence’, set ‘Trip categorization’ or produce ‘Reports’ from the App and you will have to do these when in a Wi-Fi Zone. The JO button can be used to set ‘Business Trip’ categorization with Mobile Data disabled.
Q. JO is used in a Vehicle without a Smart Phone present, how long will it take to download the trip data?
A. It will depend on the type of driving and number of trips but on average it will take 0,41 seconds/km travelled.
Q. How does JO calculate mileage travelled?
Accurate mileage travelled is taken directly from GPS data using Doppler-based velocity. The accuracy of the plot points or path on the map views have no impact on the mileage travelled calculations.
Q. What is the functionality of the JO button?
A. A trip can be set to ‘Business’ categorization type if the button on the JO is pressed after the vehicles ignition is ‘on’ or during the trip. The JO will display 6 x yellow/orange flashes and sound two beeps. To cancel the ‘Business’ categorization during the same trip, press the button again and JO will display 6 x purple flashes and sound one beep and set the trip as ‘Private’.
Q. What if very short trips are not displayed right after the trip?
A. If a trip is very short there is a possibility that the Bluetooth did not have sufficient time to connect and the trip info will not show in the JO App. The next time you make a trip the previous trip records that were not uploaded will be synced and will show on the Trips screen in the JO App. In Android you can perform a manual sync to force the App to Sync with the JO - while in the vehicle with the ignition on, press the sync button on the Trips Screen or selects Vehicles then on the Vehicles screen, pull the screen down to do a refresh. The sync should initiate within 30 - 60 seconds.
Q. Will JO drain my mobile device’s battery?
A. No. JO uses Bluetooth Low Energy that uses about 1/10 the power of normal Bluetooth. JO does not use your phone's GPS.
Q. Can I use JO in different vehicles?
A. You can use JO in as many vehicles as you require but not at the same time. If you want to change JO to another vehicle on a temporary or permanent basis you must firstly make sure all trips for the current vehicle you are using are in the App and up to date. To sync the JO in the current vehicle, go to your vehicle, switch ignition to ‘on’ and open the JO App and wait until all trips are showing on the Trips screen. Now you can 'Unpair the JO' in the App. iOS - Settings - Vehicle – Select current vehicle - ‘Remove JO’. Android - Vehicles - Select current vehicle - Edit - Select 3 dots top right - ‘Remove’. Add the new vehicle details in the JO App and under the new 'Vehicle Details' you can pair your existing JO unit. JO will now be paired with the new vehicle. Trip information and report functionality will always be available for all vehicles you have created whether they are paired or not.
Q. Can I filter the trips in the JO App
A. Yes. Trips can be filtered by Date, Category ie uncategorized - business - private and by Vehicle.
Q. Can I change the distance and currency units in the JO App?
A. Yes. On Andriod select the Edit icon on the main Menu. This will open the 'Account Profile' screen where you can update personal information and change your password etc. On iOS go to Settings then 'SETTINGS' and you can change the distance and currency units.
Q. Does JO use Assisted GPS?
A. Yes. JO uses Assisted GPS data to accelerate the calculation of the vehicles position by delivering satellite data to JO via bluetooth from your phone. This aiding data enables JO to compute a position within seconds, even under poor signal conditions. Assisted GPS data is updated every 3 days.
